FAQ Dust Control
-
Dust is a collection of small particles that can consist of materials such as soil, sand, ash, dirt, paper or textile fibres. They can be generated by natural processes, such as wind and water, or by human activities, such as cleaning, abrasion and wear. Dust can be a health hazard if inhaled. For this reason, it is important to take measures to control and eliminate dust in an appropriate manner.
-
Dust can have negative effects on both the environment and human health. Prolonged exposure to dust can cause respiratory illnesses, affecting health. Dust can also impair vision, which can be dangerous, especially in certain work environments. In addition, dust can contaminate and damage work equipment in use, which can lead to long-term breakdowns and high repair costs. Dust can also cause technical problems, such as overheating electronics in the absence of ventilation, faster wear of moving parts, or poorly functioning sensors.
-
In terms of workplace safety, there are three main types of dust that need to be considered:
- fine dust: this is a type of particle that is so small that it cannot be detected by human nasal and throat receptors and can penetrate deep into the lungs, causing health problems.
- fire protection dust: this type of dust can be highly flammable or explosive and poses an increased risk of fire and explosion.
- bioaerosols: These are tiny particles released by living organisms, such as bacteria, fungi, molds and viruses. They can cause allergic reactions, eye irritation and respiratory problems.
It is important that companies take steps to control and prevent these types of dust in work environments to ensure the health and safety of their workers.

MobyDick systems for dust control of the Cannon Line work according to the principle of dust control by finest water droplets. A modern high-pressure pump in combination with an efficient filter system, the special nozzles and the aerodynamically shaped cone (turbine) ensure the optimum size and distribution of the water droplets. These are ejected through the nozzle ring onto the source of the dust. There they combine with the dust particles flying around and cause them to sink rapidly to the ground. The dust load for humans and the environment is significantly reduced.

The cost of an effective and high quality solution with MobyDick dust collection systems usually varies between 10,000 and 35,000 euros, depending on the type, size and equipment of the solution. Less expensive options are also available in the form of second-hand equipment.
