MobyDick Wheel Washing System no. 9

FRUTIGER was recently commissioned to deliver the ninth wheel washing system MobyDick for a well-known German group of companies based in the German county of Oberallgäu. The newest installation is a MobyDick ONE with a length of 10 meters which ensures three full revolutions of a truck tyre. The water recycling concept is based on four settling tanks and a total of 200m3 water. This makes it possible to wash several hundred trucks with heavy to very heavy soiling every day.

MobyDick in New Caledonia

As market leader and specialist for customized MobyDick wheel and coarse dirt washing systems FRUTIGER has received an inquiry from an important nickel mine in New Caledonia some months ago. The high requirements of the customer for the cleaning result and functionality of this not everyday system, were thereby a special challenge for the FRUTIGER engineers. Since strong winds and typhoons often occur at the place of operation, the plant is built to withstand wind forces of up to 250 km/h. Despite the unusual design and a site on the other side of the world, the washing system could be installed and commissioned within a few days and has been doing its job reliably ever since.

Tyre washing with excess width

A conventional MobyDick wheel washing system has a passage width of 2.80 meters. This means that all trucks approved for the public roads can pass through the installation without any restrictions. In certain situations, it is however advantageous to be able to wash larger vehicles such as wheel loaders, dumpers or special vehicles on the wheel washer. In these cases, FRUTIGER offers different models as well in wider versions. The photo shows a MobyDick ConLine KIT wheel washing system with a passage width of 3.20 which was recently installed for a leading waste disposal company in the region of Westfalen (Germany). The wheel wash line MobyDick ONE even allows passage widths of up to 5.40 metres and the system can also be driven over by tracked vehicles.

ConLine KIT Flex 600C-50P on the BMW test track

For the construction of the BMW test track in Sokolov, Czech Republic, which is currently one of the largest construction projects in the entire Czech Republic, a solution for keeping the public streets clean was evaluated by the responsible construction company last year.
The decision was made in favour of two new MobyDick wheel washing systems ConLine KIT Flex 600C-50P from FRUTIGER Company AG. The modern systems, each with a length of 6 metres and a recycling tank with 50m3 water volume, were recently installed and will now wash up to 250 vehicles daily for the next 3 years. With this solution, the accumulated dirt in the recycling tanks is discharged fully automatically by sludge scraper conveyors.

Handover of a wheel washing system MobyDick ONE

Recently another wheel washing system MobyDick ONE with a length of 7.20 meters was handed over to a german customer near Ulm. The modern installation has a drastically improved washing performance compared to conventional wheel wash installations. The flow-optimised geometry of the washing modules, developed in cooperation with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH), enables an extraordinary high number of washing nozzles. The track profiles and nozzle position have also been optimised, which means that now even tracked vehicles can use the system. As an option two special nozzles (Powerflush) are used, which rinse the mudguards of the trucks reliably with up to 2500l per minute.

Tailor-made water recycling

The water recycling concept is a central element for a well-functioning wheel washing system. If faults occur here, they can usually only be rectified at great expense. For this reason the water recycling of all MobyDick systems is adjusted to the respective operating conditions (dirt, truck traffic, space conditions) together with the customer. For the realization there is a large selection of different sized recycling tanks available, which can be emptied by excavator or wheel loader. The MobyDick recycling tanks can be interconnected and are also available with scraper conveyors.

Clean roads in the USA

Duke Energy is one of the largest electricity holding companies in the United States, serving 7.7 million retail customers in six states. It has approximately 51,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the Midwest and Florida. In the past, the company has operated many large coal-fired plants, among other things. However, as a modern and innovative company, Duke is now increasingly moving to cleaner energy sources. This means the gradual decommissioning of the coal-fired power plants and the removal of fly ash, which has been generated locally from decades of power generation.
