MobyDick Demucking in India
February 21, 2023FRUTIGER/MobyDick has been awarded the contract for the design and turnkey construction of an automated vehicle washing plant in India. The project was tendered by India Coal, the largest coal mining company in the world. Coal India operates more than 500 active coal mines and employs more than 250,000 people. Most of its mines are operated as open-pit mines, using the world’s largest vehicles to transport coal and overburden.
Before service and repair work, these large dumpers have to be washed, which previously could take up to six hours by hand. This meant standing capital, labor costs and interruptions to operations. In 2020, Coal India opened a tender for an automated vehicle wash and FRUTIGER/MobyDick was awarded the contract.
The facility has three parallel wash lines for different models of large dump trucks. As with all MobyDick wash plants, all wash water is recycled and reused. Commissioning took place in the final weeks of 2022, and a 240-ton dumper can now be completely cleaned in just 8 minutes.
Coal remains one of the world’s most important energy sources and is of great importance to the global economy. Automatic vehicle washing helps minimize operational disruptions and use resources more efficiently.
